The completion date for Section 5 of Interstate 69 has officially been extended again, this time to May 31, 2018.

The Indiana Finance Authority and the Indiana Department of Transportation signed a memorandum of understanding with I-69 Development Partners regarding the new completion date and to assure that four lanes of traffic will be open through the greater Bloomington area beginning in mid-August, according to a press release from the finance authority.

The schedule calls for two northbound and two southbound lanes to be continuously open through the greater Bloomington area beginning Aug. 15. Also beginning Aug. 15, four lanes will be open from Sample Road in Monroe County to Martinsville for student move-in and home Indiana University football and basketball games.

The section north of Sample Road to Martinsville will be open to four lanes of traffic continuously no later than March 31, 2018.
