The White River Valley School Board gave the administration permission to send out letters of intent to RIF (Reduction In Force) to eight teachers for the next school year.

The Board met Thursday evening at the high school with all members present except Andrew Graves.

Superintendent Layton Wall said the school was looking for ways to cut the budget because as everyone knows, revenue is going down and expenses are going up.

"We don't yet know how it's all going to shake out," said Wall.

Teachers must be notified by a certain date if they are going to be laid off for the next school year. Most school districts are taking this step due to the current budget crisis facing schools. If things work out, they have the option to bring the teachers back before school begins in the fall.

The administration has offered an early retirement package that includes a one-time $25,000 deposit into one of their retirement funds.
