Foundations fund $300,000 stage for Canan Commons in downtown Muncie

MUNCIE -- At the latest possible moment, four local foundations have come forward with $300,000 to add a performance stage to Canan Commons, a downtown park that city officials say will be good for the environment and the economy.

"We just found out that funding is going to come through," said Matt Bailey, superintendent of city parks. "We could not have funded that stage with the federal money and other funding pots we had. This will make a monumental difference. It means we can have music, shows and other entertainment. It's quite important."
