SOUTH BEND — Madison Primary Center is one of just 14 schools in Indiana to be awarded school improvement grants by the state Department of Education.
Principal Deb Martin and the rest of the Madison staffers were recognized at Wednesday's school board meeting.
IDOE awarded $16 million in school improvement grants, with Madison receiving nearly $3.1 million for its STEAM program, which integrates science, technology, arts and music into all curricular areas, Martin said. The awarding of the grant represents the continued changing of fortunes at Madison, a school that had received the lowest grade in state assessments for four straight years.
A review by the state noted that there had been a positive shift in Madison's culture and climate and the STEAM program and the school improvement grant will build on that progress, Martin said.
