Bloomington is becoming a monarch butterfly-friendly city.

Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton and the city’s environmental commission have designated Bloomington through the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors' Monarch Pledge, along with other communities across the U.S.

The designation brings a commitment to creating habitat for the monarch butterfly and other pollinating insects and to educate citizens about how they can make a difference at home and in their communities.

Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton will make the proclamation at 12:30 p.m. June 23, during the sixth annual Bug Fest at Hilltop Garden and Nature Center, at 2367 E. 10th St.
