A new statewide map online will let Hoosiers know the risks of crashes at certain locations any time of the day.

The Indiana State Police announced this week its use of the Management Performance Hub to create the interactive website to help people “make informed road travel decisions.”

The Indiana Daily Crash Prediction map is available through the ISP’s webpage.

Areas are highlighted based on the crash risk: no highlight is very low, blue is low, yellow is medium, and red is high. An exclamation point appears in a triangle if the risk is higher due to slick roadways.

The map also marks if a location is a prior crash site and if the crash had injuries or not. The map’s user can change the time of day examined on the map in three-hour spans of time.

In Wells County, the map does not show an area marked high risk in red any time of day. However, some areas in Bluffton are highlighted in yellow for medium risk from 6 a.m. to midnight.

“The Daily Crash Prediction map allows for proactive policing approaches, targeted towards a reduction in crashes and fatalities,” a press release said. “Data from the Indiana Department of Transportation indicates a reduction of 1 percent of all crashes could result in savings of up to $35 million per year for Indiana travelers, while protecting the lives and well-being of the motoring public across the state.”
