Anderson extends small-business development agreement with Ball State University

The Anderson Board of Public Works Tuesday approved the agreement, which requires the city to provide $13,500 in matching funds. The money is obtained through the city’s share of food and beverage tax revenues.

Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said the effort is in conjunction with the Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC).

A representative from the IEDC assists candidates with the development of a business plan and helps the potential business owner to qualify for state and federal grants.

The board also approved a contract with ExteNet Systems to place antennas on utility poles to boost internet and cellular telephone service in certain areas of the city.

The small antennas will be placed on the top of utility poles along Scatterfield Road. The city will be paid for the placement.

Elizabeth Williams with ExteNet said the additional service requirements were not appropriate for the construction of a cellular tower.

“The antennas will be placed in areas where there is a high population of users,” she said. “It will be a little addition to the top of each utility pole.”
