Bloomington city council members support amending the Woolery Mill planned unit development to allow for the construction of an apartment complex on one of its vacant parcels.
In a straw poll vote of 5-1-3 on Wednesday, the council leaned toward approving the request from Regency Consolidated Residential. Council members Susan Sandberg, Andy Ruff, Allison Chopra, Dave Rollo and Tim Mayer voted in support of the amendment, while Chris Sturbaum, Dorothy Granger and Isabel Piedmont-Smith abstained. Council member Steve Volan was the lone no vote.
The developer plans to build a 111-unit, 168-bedroom complex on the 8-acre parcel located between Bloomington United Gymnastics School and Adams Village Apartments, which Regency Consolidated Residential owns, on Tapp Road. Amenities proposed for the site include a swimming pool, playground, private drives, on-site recycling and 157 parking spaces.
“We recognize a need for housing of families in the southwestern quadrant of the city,” Regency CEO Jim McKinney said.
