Bloomington recovery center's housing must be updated or shut down, state says

“When our clients finish treatment for the day, they are comforted by the fact that they can retreat to our spacious, peaceful community housing. Our Indiana Center for Recovery state-of-the-art recovery housing has the feel of a luxurious hotel,” the website claims. “In short, the total picture of comfort and tranquility.”

That image could be disrupted in light of code violations documented this week by state and local building and fire inspectors who evaluated the 45-year-old apartment building with 24 units. 

Investigators from the state, city and county recently inspected the building the Indiana Center for Recovery uses to house its clients. The State Fire Marshal's Office determined building codes need to be upgraded from residential use to institutional.

Thursday's inspection came with a violation notice from the state and a 30-day deadline to get the building in compliance with the institutional code.

If the changes aren’t made, the recovery center’s patients will have to vacate the premises.
