ELKHART — A proposal to build a new two-story, 34,000-square-foot office building downtown was the topic discussed at Wednesday’s meeting of the City of Elkhart Redevelopment Commission.

The proposed location for the office building is Civic Plaza.

Developer Scott Baldwin of Envoy Corporation, out of Indianapolis, described their goal as a company in pitching these new office spaces as “one of the things we do is redefine office by creating cooperative environments, we do small office spaces.”

Envoy has similar office spaces in seven central Indiana cities. Featuring micro-retail space as well, Baldwin described their company as “more of an accelerator as opposed to an incubator.” As to their efficacy in utilizing the office space, Baldwin stated that “we are 100-percent occupied and offer month to month leases.”

The developer also asked the city to provide 140 plus parking spaces for the office building.
