INDIANAPOLIS — A bill aimed to reduce cervical cancer deaths, sponsored by two local legislators, could soon become law.

Under House Bill 1278, sponsored by state Reps. Sharon Negele, R-Attica, and Sally Siegrist, R-West Lafayette, the Indiana State Department of Health would develop a statewide strategic plan to decrease cervical cancer deaths in Indiana, according to a news release.

Every year, roughly 250 people are diagnosed with cervical cancer, 86 of whom die from the disease, according to the Indiana Cancer Consortium.
