The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced lane restrictions for Interstate 70 in Vigo County after Monday, April 3.

Eastbound and westbound I-70 traffic will be down to one 12-feet lane in each direction between the 8- and 9-mile markers. The contractor will have the right lane closed in each direction while working on the bridges over Thompson Ditch and the Indiana Railroad.

These restrictions will continue through November.

Local traffic is encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid traffic congestion.

Superior Construction Co. was awarded this bridge deck replacement project on I-70 for $6.9 million.

This project includes replacing the decks on both bridges over U.S. 41 and Thompson Ditch and the Indiana Railroad. Some minor work remains to be completed at the U.S. 41 bridges. The project is scheduled for completion in October of 2018.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone.

Motorists can learn about highway work zones and other traffic alerts online at indot.carsprogram.org, by calling 1-800-261-ROAD (7623) or dialing 511 from a mobile phone.
