SOUTH BEND — All full-time, non-temporary employees will see a pay increase of up to 2 percent, with certain provisions to help increase wages for those making less than $15 an hour. For example, those employees will receive a full 2 percent increase and a $600 additional pay increase as long as those increases don't put them over the $15-an-hour threshold.
The Indiana University Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $3.5 billion operating budget Friday that included the increases, but not without reminding the university's financial team to consider overall costs for employees working at IU.
Continuing these increases over the next few years will ensure all full-time, non-temporary employees will earn at least $15 an hour soon after the university's bicentennial in 2020, said IU President Michael McRobbie.
Trustee Patrick Shoulders said although 2020 is not soon enough for him, he was pleased to receive that news. But he then asked whether a 2 percent pay increase would be offset by increases in the cost of employee medical benefits and parking passes.
