INDIANAPOLIS -- Four central Indiana mayors have formally endorsed the Mounds Greenway project, a trail system proposed along the White River.

Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr. was not among the mayors adding their support to the greenway. The Herald Bulletin has contacted Broderick's office seeking comment.

Mayors Dennis Tyler of Muncie, Andy Cook of Westfield, James Brainard of Carmel and John Ditslear of Noblesville have declared their support for the project, announced Monday in a press release from the Hoosier Environmental Council.

"Muncie is excited to be a part of this opportunity to connect to the Mounds Greenway along White River," Tyler said in the release. "We look forward to the opportunity to enhance quality of place by connecting with other communities throughout east central and central Indiana."

According to the Hoosier Environmental Council, a recent study forecast potential benefits from the greenway at $13 million annually for Anderson, Muncie and other communities.
