JEFFERSONVILLE — The Paul Ogle Foundation is donating $300,000 to the city of Jeffersonville in its efforts to rehabilitate the Nachand Fieldhouse.

The local foundation's contribution brings the total amount raised up to $525,000 — more than a quarter of the $1.8 million needed for rehabilitation.

p>"The community support for saving the Fieldhouse is remarkable," Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore stated in a news release. "I am so thankful to the Ogle Foundation for this grant. It goes a long way to helping us reach our fundraising goal so the Fieldhouse remains for generations to come."

The fieldhouse, now operated by the city parks department, was built in 1937 to host Jeffersonville High School basketball. At the time, Nachand was one of the largest in the state. The parks department took over in 1971 when the high school moved to a new location further east.

Now, the facility is used for public recreation for community members of all ages.

The building is in need of structural improvements, including air conditioning that will allow the gym to be used year round.
