ANDERSON – A local energy technology company has landed a $1.7 million contract to build a battery storage system for a Utah military base.

Go Electric Inc. will provide a 1MW grid-tied storage system for the Tooele Army Depot in Toole, Utah, that will enhance the munitions storage facility’s self-sufficient energy grid.

“This is Go Electric’s second major military microgrid project, and projects like these are critical to advancing and validating our technology and project performance in the defense sector,” said Tony Soverns, chief technology officer of Go Electric. “We are delighted to be part of these efforts to provide energy security and resiliency to critical military facilities and support our American Service Members.”

The project will connect a massive 1MW lithium-ion battery array to the base’s existing network as well as help the depot to efficiently provide power across the base as well as provide power redundancy in case of a failure. The project will also help the depot to save on its electric bill by using battery power to avoid peak-usage charges and provide high-emission power to enable full black start capabilities, according to a press release.

Along with the energy storage system, Go Electric will provide engineering and design services, and will support commissioning of an electronic microgrid management system.

Tooele Army Depot (TEAD) is a premier active joint ammunition storage site for the United States Army which covers roughly 24,000 acres, according to the press release. Tooele is responsible for shipping, storing, receiving, inspecting, demilitarization and maintaining training and war reserve conventional ammunition.

Go Electric is headquartered in the Flagship Enterprise Center in Anderson and has offices in Brooklyn and Honolulu. According to the news release, the company provides battery energy storage options delivering uninterruptible power to facilities, lower energy costs, integrate renewables and grid-stabilizing energy services to utilities.
