SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame has received a $15 million gift for the new campus recreation center under construction in Duncan Student Center, the university announced Friday.

The gift is from Tripp Smith, a 1987 Notre Dame graduate, and his wife, Sheila. They live in Summit, N.J.

The 80,000-square-foot Smith Center for Recreational Sports will be in Duncan Student Center, the new building on the west side of Notre Dame Stadium. Located on the building's third and fourth floors, the recreation center will feature a full-size basketball court with bleachers, cardio and free-weight areas, studios for yoga, dance, martial arts, spinning and group fitness instruction, a one-sixth mile track, a boxing area and a rock climbing wall.
