PORTAGE — Four local transit agencies will get new vehicles with the help of federal grants after action by the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission on Thursday.
The vehicles are replacing old ones.
The grants, totaling just over $360,000 for the transportation vehicles and $44,000 for the truck, will fund 80 percent of the purchase price of the vehicles, with the local agencies picking up the other 20 percent.
In other business, the NIRPC executive board renewed its contract with the law firm Blachly, Tabor, Bozik and Hartman to serve as commission attorneys. The firm's David Hollenbeck serves as the commission's main attorney.
The contract pays $1,550 per month. The commission would also pay $155 per hour for "extraordinary matters," as identified by the commission chairman.
