MUNCIE, Ind. – A social media post about a potential J-turn intersection at Delaware County Road 600-W and Ind. 332 caught a lot of attention after it was posted by the Delaware County Emergency Operations Center. Officials from the Indiana Department of Transportation, however, say any concern about the project is premature.

“The attention and controversy has come primarily from the Facebook (post),” said Nathan Riggs, Media Relations Official for the East Central district of INDOT.

According to Riggs, a majority of the information in the post was attained from a preliminary field check, at which INDOT met with local emergency responder officials, including Jason Rogers with the Delaware County Emergency Management Agency and members of the Yorktown Volunteer Fire Department.

Riggs said that the post doesn’t have the correct context for the project.

The post addresses concerns with emergency response times because of the intersection's supposed “permanent closure,” which isn’t the case. The current intersection would be changed from a traditional intersection to what is called a J-turn, or “Michigan Left” as some know it.

“We are not closing the intersection, we are modifying access,” said Riggs.
