Residents in the Odon, Alfordsville, Loogootee and Montgomery areas will be getting some improved radio service in the future. DLC Media President and General Manager Dave Crooks has announce the addition of a low-watt FM translator in the Montgomery area that will allow the company to expand coverage of WAMW-AM and FM 95.9.
"It's a win-win for everyone," said Crooks. "There is too much interference for our 500 watt A.M. signal to reach into eastern Daviess County."
The plan is to put the programming on the low-watt FM on 101.3 FM. The signal will be transmitted from the Helena Chemical Tower just south of Barr-Reeve High School.
"This is really going to have an impact on our coverage of Barr-Reeve and Loogootee," said Crooks. "When we get this up and going the signal should come in loud and clear."
The Federal Communications Commission approved the request this week.
"This has been in the works for quite a while," said Crooks. "We are still pricing equipment. Even though we have three years to get 101.3 operating we hope to have it running this summer."
Crooks said Helena Chemical Company and the Traylor Family cooperated in the project.
"This improvement means better coverage for Barr-Reeve sports, Cincinnati Reds baseball and our Four Star Country Music as well as other local programming," he said.
