INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana schools won't lose funding under a bill passed 96-0 by the Indiana House Thursday.
House Bill 1001 diverts money from the tuition reserve fund to schools that would otherwise have seen millions in cuts.
"This will ensure that no Hoosier K12 student will have anything but a fully funded education," said Rep. Sally Siegrist, R-West Lafayette. "This is an opportunity for all of us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder to ensure education remains fully funded for every student and every school."
The total amount is still being calculated but could cost around $16 million in fiscal year 2018. A similar shortfall could occur next year and the bill includes language to address that as well. The bill has a cap of $25 million in the first year of the budget and $50 million in the second year.
