Logansport officials will vote next week on hiring a consultant to assist with a plan to develop a solar field on the city's west side.
Since last year, a committee of Logansport and Logansport Municipal Utilities leaders has been contemplating bringing a solar park capable of generating about 2 megawatts on about 9 acres at 1 General Street, a project that's estimated to cost about $3.5 million. The city owns the property, which is where a former Trelleborg Automotive USA Inc. plant stood before being demolished in 2012.
City Councilman Dave Morris, a member of that committee, briefed council members at a council finance committee meeting on Jan. 29. The solar committee wants to issue a request for proposals for the project, he said. It would require a maximum of $10,000 to hire a consultant to draft the request, review submitted proposals and make a recommendation, Morris continued.
The committee already has a request for proposals that the desired consultant has drafted that LMU Superintendent Paul Hartman is reviewing, Morris said.
Morris said by phone Thursday that McCullough Research out of Portland, Oregon is the firm the committee wants to hire to assist with the solar project.
