Indiana Legislature passes Union County's bill for jail fund

County Auditor Gene Sanford told the Union County Council on Thursday that the county’s bill had been approved by the original midnight deadline, before a failed attempt by some Republicans to approve some other bills that  had missed  the midnight the deadline.

The only change legislators made in the House Enrolled Act is a requirement that the county council adopt an ordnance providing for the additional uses of the tax.

Union County has money available to improve the county jail, but those dollars were originally dedicated to improving the county courthouse, with any excess to go to the highway department.

The courthouse was upgraded in 2005-06 with some additional work done last year.
