SOUTH BEND — When it comes to technology, St. Joseph County is trying to embrace the latest and greatest.

Technological advances were trumpeted by Andy Kostielney, president of the county Board of Commissioners, on Tuesday during his State of the County address to the County Council.

Kostielney touted efforts to improve communication with the public. The county has rebranded itself with a new logo, for example, that will be noticed by residents on way-finding signs.

And in January, the county added a “report a concern” feature on its website.

“Citizens can use this feature to report anything from a road concern to a customer service concern,” Kostielney said.

He added that the county recently launched Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts. And videos of Board of Commissioners and County Council meetings are being posted to the county’s YouTube page.

“No longer is traveling to the County-City Building a barrier for citizens to be informed of the workings of their government,” he said. “They can watch our meetings from the comfort of their homes and interact with their government from the convenience of their smartphones.”

One of the largest tasks for the county this year will be launching an “enterprise resource planning” system.
