EVANSVILLE – Partners in the medical education complex nearing completion in Downtown Evansville decided its previous identity — Multi-Institutional Academic Health Science & Research Center — was far too wordy.

The complex now has a much shorter name: Evansville Center for Health Sciences. If you’re keeping score, the old name was 19 syllables, the new one, only 10.

Aside from the new name, no other data about the facility’s timeline or population has changed. It is to open in August for the fall 2018 semester, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be Aug. 9.

Upon opening for classes in August, the facility is expected to have about 500 students in various medical programs from IU, USI and the University of Evansville.
