Henry County is partnering with several other East-Central Indiana units of government in the hopes of spurring economic development throughout the region.

New Castle-Henry County Economic Development Corp. President and CEO Corey Murphy appeared before the Henry County Commissioners Wednesday seeking their approval to join the Eastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission (EIRPC), which is comprised of Fayette, Randolph, Rush, Union and Wayne counties.

“Regional collaboration is important for local prosperity,” according to Murphy. “The Eastern Indiana Regional Planning Commission strategy is in alignment with local efforts: Support advanced manufacturing, agriculture, and healthcare sectors; improve infrastructure, and enhance the quality of place.”

Murphy said the Henry County Council has already approved roughly $18,400 to pay the EIRPC’s annual membership dues, but the decision to join forces with the other counties involved was the commissioners to make. He also noted that Henry County will have a seat on the EIRPC’s board of directors.

This request was granted.
