TIPTON – An upcoming project on South Main Street in downtown Tipton will potentially install a seating venue in the alley between Subway and Luttrell Insurance.

Dubbed “The Alley,” the project is part of a larger vision to beautify and repurpose public spaces in a way that supports downtown, said Tipton County Economic Development Organization Executive Director Nathan Kring.

Looking at similar projects in Kokomo and Noblesville, the project came together as a joint venture between the TCEDO and the Tipton Main Street Association. The revamped alleyway, including seating and a mural, would hopefully be used for public recreation and a venue for Main Street Association events.

The organizations have received a cash match grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, which will pay for half of the $40,000 project, requiring $20,000 to be raised locally.

The Main Street Association received a $5,000 donation from the Campbell Family Foundation to go towards the project, said Kring. Future events, like the HeART of Tipton on May 13, will have donation opportunities
