The final dollars were tallied up Friday, showing that Give Local St. Joseph County raised more than $8.2 million on Tuesday.

More than 9,500 donors gave in the 24-hour event that beat the first Give Local day in 2015, when 5,500 donors gave $6.73 million for charities.

The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County finalized the numbers Friday on its leader board at www.givelocalsjc.org. But it has yet to divvy up $2.4 million in matching dollars that the foundation had arranged, included in the total, for the 67 participating charities.

Donations came in a range of sizes, from $25 checks on up to five-digit checks, stock gifts and donor-advised funds, said Laura Moran Walton, marketing and public relations director. And there were challenge grants of $10,000 to $100,000 for 20 of the charities.

Out of what the charities raised, 75 percent will go directly to them and 25 percent toward the charity’s endowment at the community foundation. Depending on how much each charity raises, it will receive a slice of $2.4 million in matching dollars.

The St. Joseph County Public Library ended up with the highest number of individual donors, 393, though its total dollars, more than $57,000, is in the middle of the charities’ results.

The YMCA of Michiana received the fourth largest total dollars, almost $376,000, though it came from the 10th least number of donors: 38.

Because the St. Joseph County Parks met its Give Local goal, construction will begin in June on the next section of the paved LaSalle Trail, between Darden and Auten roads, said parks Director Evie Kirkwood. That is likely to be finished this summer, filling yet another gap in the trail that stretches along the St. Joseph River to Mishawaka.
