WINSLOW — A 107-acre tract of land has been added to the Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge, which spans roughly 9,000 acres in Gibson and Pike counties along 30 miles of the Patoka River.
Wetlands America Trust and Ducks Unlimited donated the land to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
“A mixture of hardwood forest and remnant oxbows, this land provides important breeding, migration and wintering habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife,” said Michael Sertle, a Ducks Unlimited regional biologist in Indiana.
The acreage will be included into public ownership and will be open to public recreation per Patoka River National Wildlife Refuge rules and regulations.
