WANE TV eliminated several positions, resulting in the layoffs of four of the news station’s support employees.

WANE’s president and general manager Tom Antisdel said the reductions are part of the station’s consolidation into Nexstar Broadcasting Group, which acquired WANE’s parent company, Media General, in 2016.

The community affairs director was among the positions affected. While the position and its department have been eliminated, Antisdel said the functions of this role have been assumed by director of promotions Lou Cucinelli. Similar reorganizations have taken place at other Nexstar stations.

Moving forward, changes to WANE’s business model put the station in a better position to focus on expanding other areas like digital and the morning newscast, Antisdel said. The station is currently hiring for other positions including digital.
