MUNCIE — The headline began making the rounds in email and on social media on Monday, almost as soon as it was published: "'Trump hasn't just done a good job, he's done a great job'" — the view from Muncie, Indiana."

The article, published by The Guardian, a British newspaper and news site, summarized the feelings — including some that differed from that expressed in the headline — of Muncie residents in the wake of President Donald Trump's first year in office.

Guardian reporter Gary Younge wrote some stories based in Muncie during the 2016 election year. Since the 1920s, Muncie has been considered a place to take the nation's temperature on social, political and economic matters because Muncie was considered the typical small American city in the "Middletown" sociological study. For decades, news media from around the country and internationally have visited Muncie and talked to residents about issues.

Younge's latest article notes that Muncie and Delaware County supported Barack Obama twice before voting for Trump over Hillary Clinton in November 2016.
