MIDDLEBURY — Walkers, joggers and bikers have a new trail to explore, with the opening of the Ridge Run Trail in Middlebury.

Officials, dignitaries and trail enthusiasts gathered Saturday afternoon for the official ribbon cutting on Saturday, July 15. After the ceremony, teams of particpants signed up for a scavenger hunt as a kick off event to that day's Trialfest.

According to Middlebury's website, the Ridge Run Trail is a Middlebury community project led by the Friends of the Middlebury Parks and in partnership with the Town of Middlebury Parks Department, Friends of Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, Das Dutchman Essenhaus, Middlebury Greencroft, Middlebury School Corporation, Pretty Place Bed and Breakfast and dozens of community supporters. 

The project cost $240,000. 

The trail is appromiately 1.5 mile asphalt multi-use trail. The new trail will connect the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail at the Middlebury side of the US Highway 20 tunnel and it connects to the Essenhaus campus and the Middlebury Schools campus.
