JASPER — Tourism is thriving in Dubois County, according to a study by market research firm Rockport Analytics. The study shows visitor spending totaling $82 million in 2016, an 11.7 percent increase from 2015.
The study compared tourism data from the last three years.
“Tourism is not only good for the local economy but also has many other benefits for the community,” said Kevin Manley, executive director of the Dubois County Visitors Center & Tourism Commission. “Without tourism, each household in Dubois County would have to pay an additional $359 per year in taxes to maintain current state and local levels.”
The study was commissioned by the Indiana Office of Tourism Development and supported by Radius Indiana. It shows that Dubois County tourism growth is outpacing overall state data, with 73 cents of every one dollar spent on tourism staying in the local economy.
Dubois County ranks the following out of the state’s 92 counties: No. 14 in tourism sales per capita, No. 24 in regional spending by visitors and No. 29 in regional spending growth.
