WEST LAFAYETTE — A Purdue professor received a generous grant to help develop hybrid grain seeds that will resist parasite weeds.

Gebisa Ejeta, also the director of the Purdue Center for Global Food Security, received a $5 million, four-year grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This will be the second time the foundation gave to the cause.

"It's very helpful a grant such as this for the kind of programs that they support in developing countries because it allows us to engage beyond the normal boundaries we operate," Ejeta said.

Ejeta said there are four objectives for the next four years.

He first wants to advance the science component.
