Marsh to shutter one of its two supermarkets in Richmond

Marsh Supermarkets will close its 1301 S. E St. location at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 25, a company spokesman said.

David Palmer, senior vice president of marketing for Marsh, said the store was chosen to close because it was not feasible in the long run to renew a lease for the location. An Indianapolis location has also been selected to close.

"We have come to the difficult decision to close this store, effective (that day)," he said, citing weak performance as a primary reason for the decision to close the location."

Palmer said the company does not own the building, though property records indicate the building is owned by MSI E Street Richmond Grocery LLC; the address of 9808 Crosspoint Road in Indianapolis is similar to that of Marsh's headquarters, which is located at 9800 Crosspoint Road. Palmer was not available Friday to clarify who actually owns the building.
