A Japan-based multinational auto-parts maker is investing about $5.4 million and creating 48 jobs at its existing location in New Haven.

Sanko Gosei, which purchased the Bhar Inc. location at 6509 Moeller Road, is asking the city for a tax abatement that will get its first reading at Tuesday's tonight's New Haven council meeting.

Brian Yoh, New Haven's director of planning and economic development, said Monday the plan involves a $2.2 million building expansion and $3.26 million in equipment, including information technology equipment.

The company does precision injection molding of plastic components for vehicle interiors, he said.
