NAPPANEE — A new agricultural business is coming to Nappanee and will be utilizing space at the old Supersweet/ADM mill on South Main Street near the railroad tracks. At Tuesday’s city council meeting the council approved a declaratory resolution for Tri State Crush LLC and plans to give them a seven-year tax abatement.

Mayor Phil Jenkins said on Wednesday that the company was looking at several locations across the state.

He and other officials met with the owners and “worked out a plan that was beneficial to them and beneficial to the city.”

The company plans to liquefy soybeans, according to Clerk-Treasurer Kathy Brown, and has said the facility would create little noise and no odor.

Jenkins said the company would create nine new jobs but more importantly, “We were interested in the economic diversity they’d be bringing to the local economy being an ag business.”

According to the declaratory resolution, the company will make improvements of $1.3 million in real estate improvements and $1.7 million of improvements inside the facility.
