ELKHART – Do It For the Culture founder Steven Robinson has a vision for the city of Elkhart—and he wants to share that vision with the community.

In order to do that, he founded the group Do It For the Culture, whose primary mission is built on “changing the atmosphere in Elkhart.”

Robinson said he remembers a time during his adolescence when the city was “the place to be,” but that’s changed in the past decade or so, according to Robinson.

Now, kids have few opportunities in the city and that propagates violence and apathy, as well as a desire to flee from the community in search of a better future, Robinson said.

“The alternatives that they have, whether it be gang violence or doing something outside of Elkhart, getting away from Elkhart…that’s more appealing,” he said.

Robinson created Do It For the Culture to curb that trend and reach the Elkhart community, particularly its youth, with a message that there’s a more promising and fulfilling future.

The group is currently planning its first event which will take place on Aug. 12, the week before the Elkhart Memorial versus Elkhart Central football game.

Robinson said the event will be one for the entire community, filled with food, carnival rides, job recruiters and guest speakers.
