SOUTH BEND — An out-of-state developer plans to invest more than $2 million in the Jefferson Centre building, formerly the Sherland building, in downtown South Bend in yet another positive sign for the downtown real estate market.

Jefferson Centre Associates recently purchased the eight-story building at Jefferson Boulevard and Michigan Street with plans to renovate the office and common spaces and update the 1970s-era metal and “epoxy aggregate” façade.

Dan Wiener, a Florida real estate investor, manages Jefferson Centre Associates, which purchased the building from Wiener’s father, Louis Wiener.

Proposed exterior improvements include masonry from the street level to the third floor, new canopies, including a sleek glass-and-steel canopy on the Jefferson Boulevard side of the building, LED accent lighting and new signage and paint.

The rust-colored window framing on the south and west sides of the building will be repainted blue, and the roof will be replaced.
