CROWN POINT — A new, multi-function community center will be part of Bulldog Park, a 2-acre, $5.6 million downtown park that will include an ice rink, amphitheater and splash pads, and will be home to city festivals and car cruises.

Mayor David Uran announced several changes to city services as part of his State of the City address Tuesday at White Hawk Country Club. Plans include replacement for the city's outdated civic center to be built on the grounds of the future Bulldog Park downtown along West Street next to Wheeler Middle School.

Bulldog Park is expected to open in the summer of 2018. The ice rink may be ready this winter.

Uran said he wants the American Dream to be real in Crown Point. During his speech, Uran lauded its residents, city departments and employees as those who can make that dream a reality.

Uran also announced that the city's Emergency Management Agency will leave its home in the civil defense building next to the current civic center and relocate to 950 Anderson St. The move will take place this spring to a building the city owns and plans to repurpose for the EMA.

The mayor also provided highlights of the city for 2016, including the Building and Planning Department approving 739 building permits, up from 622 the previous year. More than 200 of those permits were for single-family homes. The city saw $62 million in new investment in residential properties and under $18 million in new commercial growth.
