ELKHART— The United Way of Elkhart County has surpassed its $1.9 million goal through community and corporate donations for the 2017 campaign, organizers announced this week.

The amount pledged to date is $1,925,000, with pledges and donations still being counted toward the campaign.

“‘AMAZING!’ This is the first word that comes to mind when I think about our community,” said United Way President and CEO Bill Reith. “People have sacrificially and generally given to help improve the lives of their neighbors.”

About 4,000 people pledged to the 2017 campaign, which kicked off in August, including more than 120 workplace fundraising efforts. Notably, donations from Keystone RC Company topped $400,000, making it the single largest United Way campaign ever held in Elkhart County, according to Matt Puro, spokesman for the local nonprofit organization.

The United Way supports more than 30 community programs and initiatives in Elkhart County. Last year, the nonprofit raised $1.9 million, and this year, the organization sought to exceed that amount, organizers said.
