WEST LAFAYETTE — State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company announced on Thursday it plans to close 11 facilities nationwide by 2021. One of these facilities is in West Lafayette and employs 310 people.

State Farm said the West Lafayette facility, located at 2550 Northwestern Ave., will close in 2020. A facility in Indianapolis will also shutter in 2020, along with locations in Medley, Florida, and Downers Grove, Illinois.

State Farm's headquarters in Bloomington, Illinois, will remain open and employees from the West Lafayette facility will have the opportunity to work there as well as at hubs in Atlanta, Phoenix and Dallas. Roughly 4,200 employees nationwide will be impacted by this multi-year consolidation process.

State Farm will begin closing facilities in 2018, starting with ones in Parsipanny, N.J. and Petaluma, California.

Justin Tomczak, senior media specialist with State Farm, said the company is consolidating operations in an attempt to streamline processes and leverage new technologies.
