LAFAYETTE — Add "buying an iPhone X" to the list of things you can do with $1,000 — you know, if you're into must-have, high-tech gadgets.

Apple and its iPhones have loyal followers — David Marshall and Bobby Walker of Lafayette, just to name two. Then there are the iPhone converts, such as Karyn Taylor, who recently switched to the iPhone and raves about it.

The unveiling earlier this month of the latest evolution of the iPhone model X —as in Roman numeral 10— came with a hefty price tag of $1K. It's even more if one wants the larger storage.

"I don’t have to have the newest, biggest, best thing out there. The pricing is outrageous," Taylor said as she talked about the new iPhone compared to her iPhone 7.

Taylor had used an Android based cellphone until December, when she switched to her iPhone, and while she "loves" the iPhone, she's not willing to pay $1,000. In fact, she wondered why the prices dropped on other technologies — such as VCRs, DVRs, HDTVs, and even earlier models of cellphones — but the price of iPhones continue to rise.

Marshall and Walker are more discerning, but they're more tech-sophisticated, and both admit to being Apple enthusiasts.
