MUNCIE — In its efforts to redevelop Muncie's riverfront downtown, the city of Muncie has bought 15 parcels of land for about $1.7 million.

The properties — most of them roughly between Franklin Street and the White River near Muncie City Hall — were purchased from four owners. While the total of the purchases was revealed in January, the addresses, owner names and individual amounts were not previously known.

The properties will be used as part of Mayor Dennis Tyler's riverfront redevelopment plan, a $48 million proposal in the works for several years. The redevelopment would include buildings with a mix of commercial, retail and residential.

Todd Donati, executive director of the Muncie Redevelopment Commission and the city's economic development officer, said the city is working with potential developers on financing and planning the redevelopment.
