56 reports allege sexual misconduct by IU employees

This and other figures were included in a report compiled by the university in response to a public record request submitted by The Herald-Times. IU's Office of Student Welfare and Title IX releases the number of reports alleging sexual misconduct by Indiana University students each year. Reports alleging sexual misconduct by IU employees are not included in those figures.

One reason is that student behavior has been the focus of IU's student welfare office. Another is that university leadership hasn't asked for reports against employees to be included in the office of student welfare's annual report, said Emily Springston, IU’s chief student welfare and Title IX officer. 

"At some point that may be something we do, but we can also provide it through these other means," she said.

There were far fewer reports alleging sexual misconduct by employees than by students on most IU campuses. For instance, there were 164 reports against students on the Bloomington campus, compared with 17 against employees during the same period. IU Kokomo was the only exception, with five reports against employees and two against students.
