An international chemical distribution company will open a warehousing facility on Richmond's east side later this year, creating a handful of new jobs.

Lintech International, a Macon, Ga.-based chemical distributor, announced Thursday it has purchased the former Marvel Industries building along Industrial Parkway. It plans to renovate the 120,000-square-foot facility using local contractors and will open the site Sept. 1.

The company stores and distributes materials for painting, agriculture, rubber, plastic adhesive and composite industries and caters to both United States and international clients.

The building has been vacant since refrigerator manufacturer Marvel Industries ceased operations in 2008, costing the area about 140 jobs.

In a statement, Lintech chief executive officer Julie Van Brunt said the company sees Richmond as an ideal location for its expanding distribution network.

“We are very excited about our new facility ... as its location is well suited to serve our strategic markets in the Midwest which will enable Lintech to provide outstanding distribution and storage services," she said. "After visiting Richmond and the surrounding area, we immediately felt at home. We believe our company culture will integrate well with the community and its people."
