German American Bancorp installed signage and opened for business this week at its new Downtown Evansville branch, at Southeast Third and Locust streets.
The Jasper, Indiana-based bank bought the building’s first and second floors, a sub-level floor that includes a conference room, and the drivethrough and parking area across Southeast Third.
The nine-floor building has other professional offices on its upper floors. Its most recent banking tenants were First Security Bank, based in Owensboro, Kentucky, and the now-defunct Integra Bank.
German American’s regional management office, overseeing the company’s properties in Vanderburgh and Warrick counties, is being moved to the Downtown Evansville location from Vogel Road. German American will continue to offer banking services at its Vogel Road site.
“We see it as our way to really support the community and support the Downtown revitalization efforts as well,” said John Lamb, president of German American’s Vanderburgh and Warrick region. “Downtown continues to be the main hub of the professional community. From a networking standpoint, there’s certainly advantages to being there.”
Lamb said the sub-level conference room is used by many community organizations and will still be available to them.
First Security Bank, meanwhile is relocating its Evansville office from Downtown to a building at Fulton Avenue and Division Street. A sign there says the office will open this month.
