Area John Deere customers will be going to the same location with a new name beginning Nov. 1.

Smith Implements, with locations in Rushville and Richmond as well as Bloomington, Greenfield, Franklin and Greensburg, will be acquired by Koenig Equipment of Botkins, Ohio.

With the addition of the Smith locations, Koenig will have 13 dealership facilities serving customers in southwestern Ohio and southeastern Indiana.

“Koenig shareholders and family are honored that Smith would choose us to serve the customers, geography and employees they have developed over nearly four decades,” said Koenig CEO Aaron Koenig. “In addition, we appreciate the confidence John Deere has shown in Koenig by choosing our dealership to represent their product in this geography. Most importantly, we could not have reached this point without our fantastic customers and employees, both past and present.”

The first day of business for the combined operation is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 31.

Founded in 1904 by John C. Koenig, the company is now in its fourth generation as an employee-owned business. Koenig is a farm and turf equipment dealer proudly serving local agricultural communities, residential property owners, landscapers and contractors. The company specializes in high-quality brands including John Deere, Honda and Stihl.

Smith Implements was formed in October 1981 by Robert T. “Bob” and Mary Louise Smith, and their oldest son Ted. From early on, all the Smith Brothers – Ted, Kirby, David and Chris – worked hard to build the business that exists today. Sister Terry and several other family members have joined Smith Implements over time and continue the tradition of exceptional service.

A history of hard work and unmatched service has been critical to the growth of Smith Implements. What began as a 13-person operation in Greenfield has grown to over 120 people in six key locations to service our customer base. Bob Smith’s philosophy of “Take Care of Customers” was instilled early into the company’s culture and it remains a core Smith Implements value today.
