The Bloomington Parking Commission’s first report indicates the city’s success with parking meters may not be enough to continue propping up the cost of garages, surface lots and neighborhood zones.

Since forming in November 2016, the parking commission has evaluated current and historical data, and found the city has had to pull in other funding sources to subsidize parking.

The 407-page report was released this week, and is available on the city’s website. Findings from the report will be presented to the city council Jan. 17.

“The Parking Commission is not pro-parking or anti-parking. We are not pro-car or anti-car. We have no position,” commission chairman Jim Blickensdorf said. “There will never be a perfect solution, but the solution now is to not let what we’re doing be stagnant.”

There are no recommendations in the report, in an effort to objectively compile and share information about city parking.
