ELKHART — Local development officials are working to get a tax abatement approved for a manufacturer that wants to expand and add over 30 new jobs.

Dynamic Metals, which produces a myriad of products including doors for the Chicago Metra Line, windows for Amtrak trains, doors for Humvees produced by AM General in South Bend and much more, is looking to invest $3.5 million in new equipment and add 34 jobs with an average starting pay of between $18 and $20-an-hour.

Located at 54347 Highland Boulevard in Elkhart, Dynamic Metals has operated for the past six-and-a-half years in the city, but was founded in Dayton, Ohio 13 years ago.

The Elkhart County Council has approved a declaratory resolution in support of the tax abatement, the first phase of approving the abatement. A tax abatement would allow the company to phase-in increases in property taxes due to the added value of equipment that the company wants to move into their manufacturing facility.
